Volunteering for the Heartfile Health Financing project can be an enriching and exciting experience as we believe that our volunteers should benefit and learn from the work they do. We provide our volunteers with exciting training opportunities and match them up with work they enjoy doing. Q. What sort of work is Heartfile doing through its Health Financing Project? 
A. More than 70% of Pakistan’s population is not universally covered for healthcare and more than 60% of the population is employed in the informal sector. This leaves a majority of the population susceptible to catastrophic health expenditure (i.e. taking loans or selling assets to cover their medical expenses) when faced with a serious medical problem. Heartfile has taken the initiative of directly providing medical services to such patients. 

Q. Who can be a volunteer? 
A. We encourage volunteers of all backgrounds who are highly proficient in both Urdu and English and are computer literate. Volunteers with a medical background are especially encouraged to apply as some of our volunteer work involves directly interacting with patients and doctors. While we prefer volunteers who can work out of our office on weekdays between 9am and 5pm, we give volunteers the flexibility to set their own hours and work from home. 

Q. How will I benefit from being a Heartfile volunteer? 
A. Heartfile volunteers are provided training in areas such as poverty assessment and medical ethics in order to carry out assignments. Volunteers are awarded official certificates after they have completed these trainings and logged at least twenty hours of volunteer work. Personal recommendations can be requested from the Volunteer Coordinator after sixty hours of volunteer work have been completed.
